2023 Toyota GR Supra With Manual Option Arrives In Malaysia

The 2023 Toyota GR Supra is now available in Malaysia with new equipment and a manual transmission.

When UMW Toyota released the GR Supra back in 2020, the reception was admittedly a little bit mild, but they kept it updated through the years. For 2023, Malaysian customers will get another important update to the Supra that brings a 6-speed manual transmission option for the first time.

The 6-speed manual gearbox has been specifically developed to match the performance characteristics of the 3.0-litre straight six engine with a twin-scroll turbocharger. The engine produces 388 PS between 5,800 – 6,500 rpm and 500 Nm of torque from 1,800 – 5,000 rpm. The power is sent to the rear wheels in a pure sports car manner.

The new manual transmission is intelligent and can match engine speeds when shifting gears for smooth and sporty driving. The GR Supra with the manual transmission can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds, which is 0.3 seconds slower than the 8-speed automatic version that takes 4.1 seconds to achieve the same feat. The top speed of the car is electronically limited to 250 km/h. It’s also worth noting that the manual version is 22kg lighter than the auto version. The manual version also does not come with Auto Cruise Control.

To complement the addition of the manual transmission, Toyota has further refined the steering and suspension characteristics of the GR Supra. The stabiliser bushings have been modified, and the adaptive variable suspension has been retuned. The chassis control systems have also been recalibrated to improve handling performance and ride comfort.

The driving dynamics of the GR Supra are enhanced with Adaptive Variable Suspension and Electronically Controlled Limited Slip Differential. Drivers can customise some of the settings to extend the performance envelope of the sportscar and reduce the intervention of electronic aids.

The GR Supra has a 50:50 weight distribution and features 19-inch forged alloy rims with 255/35 tyres in front and 275/35 tyres in the rear. The new alloy wheels are slightly lighter.

Safety is a top priority for the GR Supra. Toyota Supra Safety technologies enable drivers to take the car to its limits safely. These technologies include a variety of active systems that work together to assist the driver when necessary. Additionally, the car has features like the Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, Intelligent Parking Sensor with Emergency Braking Function, and Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert. The automatic version also has cruise control and adaptive capability for comfortable journeys.

The interior of the GR Supra is driver-centric, with a long list of standard features that includes leather upholstery, Heads-Up Display, electrically-adjustable sports seats, electrochromatic rearview mirror, and a 12-speaker JBL audio system.

The GR Supra is available in eight sporty and striking colours – Prominence Red, Lighting Yellow, White Metallic, Black Metallic, Dawn Blue Metallic, Volcanic Ash Grey Metallic, Matte Avalanche White Metallic, and Matte Storm Grey Metallic. The GR Supra has an On-The-Road price of RM649,070 for the manual version and RM659,070 for the automatic version in Peninsular Malaysia. The price does not include insurance.
