Two Chinese Electric Vehicles landed in Malaysia this year. Which is better on paper, the Ora Good Cat or the BYD Atto 3?
In the last quarter of 2022, two Chinese car brands set up operation in Malaysia and launched an electric vehicle each. Thanks to favourable taxation set up by the previous administration, Malaysians can choose between the Ora Good Cat and the BYD Atto 3 at reasonable prices. We decided to compare their top variants spec-for-spec.
Price
While the Ora Good Cat has a lower starting price, we’re comparing only the top variants and the Atto 3 is RM2,000 cheaper in this comparison.

Performance
In terms of performance, the top spec Atto 3 has the Good Cat beat in raw performance and charging speed. It also has more sophisticated rear suspension. The Good Cat has a slightly larger battery with slightly more range.

Safety
In terms of safety, here’s where the Ora Good Cat seems to have some advantages with its Advanced Driver Assist Systems. That being said, the BYD Atto 3 has an additional airbag and Hill Descent Control.

It’s also worth noting that both vehicles have undergone Euro NCAP testing. Both vehicles scored 5 stars, but the Ora Good Cat (marketed as the Funky Cat in Europe) scored better in Adult Occupant (92% vs 91%), Vulnerable Road User (74% vs 69%) and Safety Assist (93% vs 74%) categories. The BYD Atto 3 scored better in the Child Occupant category (89% vs 83%).
Infotainment and Displays
In this category, the Ora Good Cat’s biggest advantage is the driver’s display is larger at 7″. In every other way, the BYD Atto 3 has got the upper hand.
