Perodua beat their initial 2022 sales target before the end of November.
Earlier in the year, Perodua announced an ambitious sales target of 247,800 cars for 2022. This was higher than their record of 240K cars sold in 2019. In November they exceeded that sales target with 250,795 cars sold. By October 2022, they had already sold 222,203 vehicles – meaning November sales amounted to roughly 25,600 cars.
What’s perhaps more impressive is the company’s production numbers. They’ve managed to produce 258,960 vehicles this year so far perhaps to meet the backlog of orders following the expiration of the sales tax exemption for cars. At their peak, they produced 29,149 vehicles in a single month – the higher production output in Perodua’s history.
Perodua President and CEO Dato’ Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad attributes this to their ability to maximise resources within Perodua and their supplier ecosystem.
“This achievement is meaningful on many levels; the first shows our ability to further maximise current resources, both within Perodua and its supplier ecosystem. The second is that through this achievement, we now realise that we can further increase output –both in sales and production without investing in a new plant or acquiring more land for our manufacturing operations,” he said.
“That being said, we will continue to invest in upgrading our operations as a group with emphasis in knowledge and skill development of our people. We are also working closely with our suppliers and dealers to ensure that their operations are capable to meet future demand and challenges.” he added.
