PLUS expects 1.9 million vehicles per day for this

So the 15th General Election is coming up and, many Malaysians, myself included, will be driving across the country to vote for (hopefully) a bright future for change and make no mistake, this election truly is our best shot at a better future but unfortunately, the election will cause heavy traffic, luckily PLUS has it covered.

PLUS wants to ensure a more comfortable journey for Malaysians travelling to vote on 19 November 2022 and thus is re-issuing its Travel Time Advisory (TTA) and fortifying its highway operations to ease the travels for the expected 1.8 to 1.9 million vehicles that would be on the road from 17 to 21 November 2022.

Datuk Zakaria Ahmad Zabidi, CEO of PLUS stated, “PLUS is issuing the TTA in conjunction with the 15th GE on the North-South Expressway for the period of 16th November to 21st November 2022.”

“Based on the TTA, those travelling out of the Klang Valley to Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Perak (North) and Johor from 16th November and 18th November are encouraged to enter the highway before 10am. Highway users heading towards other states are advised to enter the highway between 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm.” he added.

Moreover, PLUS advises Malaysians to enter the highway before 10am if travelling inbound to the Klang Valley from 20th to 21st November 2022, from Perlis, Kedah, Penang, North Perak, Johor and other states. PLUS will also temporarily suspend all highway maintenance except emergency works from 17th to 21st November 2022.

Datuk Zakaria Ahmad Zabidi also said, “We also advise those planning to return to their hometowns to vote to plan their journey and be prepared to face a longer travel duration due to the increase in traffic. Nevertheless, PLUS is also beefing up its highway operations to help the public enjoy a comfortable journey including the facilities at the toll plazas and rest areas.”

In addition to temporarily suspending all highway maintenance works, PLUS will also be temporarily suspending upgrading and construction works that require lane closures, with the exception of emergency works such as accident clearance and critical repair work, from 17th to 21st November 2022 as well.

On top of that, PLUS will also station cranes and tow trucks at strategic locations along the highway. This is to ensure that any accident or vehicle breakdown can be dealt with quickly despite the suspension of maintenance works and to ensure that traffic still flows smoothly.

The TTA will be available on the PLUS website linked here so do check it out if you need to and don’t forget to drive safely and vote responsibly Malaysia, we cannot afford to take the future of our country lightly.
