Perodua Sales Up 5 Percent This Quarter As Supply Chain Issues Improve

Will the supply chain continue improving permanently?

Perodua sales for the third quarter of 2022 have gone up by five percent to a total of 69,001 units compared to a still impressive total of 65,719 units last quarter. Perodua  equates this with the supply chain situation continuing to improve and hopefully the situation keeps improving as time goes by.

Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad stated, “The increase in registration in this quarter (3Q22), shows that most of the major issues within the automotive supply chain has normalised. It is now time to further improve on production as we need to reduce the waiting period for our valued customers.”

Moreover, when considering a comparison for the third quarter of last year, Perodua has seen a 216.5 percent increase this year since Malaysia was undergoing a lockdown between June and Mid-August last year as a result of the global pandemic. This meant Perodua only sold 21,803 vehicles between July and September 2021.

On top of that, Perodua has seen a 64.9 percent sales increase on a year-to-date comparison having sold 196,354 units from January to September 2022 as opposed to 119, 093 units for the same period this year.

Additionally, Perodua saw a meagre 5.43 percent registrations increase on a month-to-month comparison having 26,039 registrations in August 2022 compared to 24,626 units registered in August. This is in line with the company’s vehicle registration maximization plan for the fourth quarter of this year.

Dato’ Sri Zainal added, “For now, we are focused on increasing our momentum into the fourth quarter of this year as well as maximising production in the first quarter of next year to ensure all our customers who booked their Perodua vehicles during the sales tax exemption period will receive their car on or before 31 March 2023.”

This comes as the brand’s number of outstanding bookings eligible for the sales tax exemption stood at over 200,000 orders as of 30 June 2022 and Perodua aims to deliver on all these bookings as soon as possible.

However, as far as production goes, Perodua has achieved its highest monthly production so far this year by producing 29,077 units in September this year while the year-to-date numbers from January to September 2022 stood at 206,837 units so things are looking up for Perodua.
