The latest Civic debuts the 2.0L version of the e:HEV powertrain in Malaysia.
The 11th generation Honda Civic has been quite a hit in Malaysia thanks to the standardised 1.5L turbo engine, matured looks and an RS flagship variant. Over 6,000 units have been sold in just 9 months. Now, Honda Malaysia are expanding the Civic lineup to include a new hybrid model as the flagship with the Civic e:HEV RS.
The Civic e:HEV RS offers 184PS and 315Nm of torque, which is the highest for any Civic model sold in Malaysia, save the Type R. Just like the City e:HEV models and the HR-V e:HEV, the Civic e:HEV system uses the best of electric and petrol power. In most circumstances, the petrol engine is used as a generator to charge up the battery. However, when cruising, the e-CVT can take power directly from the engine for a low-consumption drive, while giving the batteries a break. Both electric and petrol power can also be simultaneously channelled when maximum acceleration is called for.
The reason why the Civic e:HEV RS has a much higher torque and horsepower rating than the previous e:HEV models brought in by Honda Malaysia is because the Civic is the first here to use a 2.0L petrol engine. This, along with a more powerful traction motor, gives it much better performance.
Besides the new powertrain, this e:HEV model also comes with a few extra goodies. This version of the Civic will come with a Blue H Mark to distinguish it as a hybrid vehicle. What’s more, the grille will get a stylish chrome accent. A new 18″ dual-tone alloy wheel has also been included – the 1.5L Turbo RS model comes with 18″ black-painted wheels. Another new addition is the Key Card, which allows keyless entry and start functions in a compact and convenient package. This Key Card is a first in segment, and will allow users to access and start their vehicle with a key that fits nicely in a wallet or on a lanyard.
Other returning features include Wireless Apple CarPlay on a 9″ Advanced Display Audio screen, Remote Engine Start, and the full Honda Sensing suite, which includes:
- Lead Car Departure Notification System (LCDN)
- Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
- Low Speed Follow (LSF)
- Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS)
- Forward Collision Warning (FCW)
- Lane Keep Assist System (LKAS)
- Road Departure Mitigation (RDM)
- Lane Departure Warning (LDW)
- Auto High Beam (AHB)
