The Chery GENE Concept Vehicle is a look at the brand’s future in automotive design and tech.
The electric vehicle market is getting really saturated and it’s becoming tougher for carmakers to differentiate their products. That means we’re starting to see some very wild concept cars come even from mass market brands from China like Chery. The latest of these is the Chery GENE – a new vision concept vehicle that was shown at the Yaoguang 2025 Chery Technology Day.
The GENE is being touted as an EV with a difference. It can be charged conventionally using a cable, but it also features solar power as a supplemental charging system. Chery is also presenting something called ‘black technologies’ which the company mentions in not one but two press releases but does not elaborate much on. It appears that these include autopilot, hydrogen fuel, intelligent linking, face recognition, AR enhanced real-life navigation, intelligent semantic recognition system, and smart appliance IoT.
The Chery GENE is a full-sized electric SUV with a total length of 5,000mm, a width of 2,000mm and a height of 1,750mm. It features rear-hinged doors and an electric sliding tailgate as part of its exterior design. Inside, there are seats for just four, but each of these seats can be slid and rotated. The GENE also comes with a couple of drones and an electric skateboard, which could serve as a solution for ‘last mile’ travel.
The design of the Chery GENE is quite noteworthy. It’s a departure from anything Chery has ever made before, including the OMODA 5 EV, which is already futuristic in itself. The logo for the GENE is adapted from the ‘Chery Ring’ found on the company’s logo itself. The ‘Chery Ring’ motif is also built into other parts of the vehicle such as the lamps, radar, rear view mirror, electric door handles and rear logo.
Chery says the GENE concept vehicle will be used to further develop the design concept of Chinese automobile brands into the future. Inside, the GENE adopts more ‘ring-like’ features for the cabin design. Almost no details were shared about its powertrain, chassis and interior.
