At the Volkswagen ID. Meet event in Locarno, Switzerland, 2 new electric show cars were displayed.
The Volkswagen ID family of electric vehicles has been ever expanding. Today, there are more ID models and variants than most can keep track of. This week, two more non-production takes were shown at the ID. Meet in Locarno, Switzerland – the ID.5 GTX „Xcite“ and the ID. XTREME.
Volkswagen ID.5 GTX „Xcite“
The ID.5 GTX „Xcite“ is essentially a standard ID.5 GTX modified to cater to youths. It was put together by 14 apprentices at Volkswagen’s Saxony, Zwickau and Chemnitz locations under expert supervision. For the exterior, comprehensive changes were made.
The wheel houses were modified, the door sills widened and the fenders were adapted to these changes. Matt and gloss paintwork was taken from the stock Lamborghini and Volkswagen selection. 22″ custom forged aluminium wheels with powder coating completes the look.
Inside, Alcantara and vegan leather was used to line the cockpit, steering wheel, door trims and roof liner. The seats feature a continous honeycomb pattern with the project logo embroidered on the front headrests. Other upgrades include a new digital sound system using equipment from Gladen, Musway and Bang & Olufsen. The 2000W system has 10 amplifiers and a subwoofer. Finally, there’s a Teamgee H5 electric skateboard for that final mile of electric travel.
Volkswagen ID. XTREME
The ID. XTREME, on the other hand, is an off-road concept based on the ID.4 GTX. This vehicle was built by a more experienced team to show the off-road potential of the Modular Electric Drive Matrix (MEB) platform. The ID. XTREME features more substantive modifications, such as an increase of system power from 65kW to 285kW and the introduction of new software adaptations in the drive control unit.
The exterior of the ID. XTREME features raised rally running gear, 18″ off-road wheels, a modified crash member with additional front bumper, as well as widened wings. There is also a roof carrier with additional LED lights and an aluminium underbody to bolster the protection to the battery.
Volskwagen Design also helped create a unique sound generator in the wheel housings for a signature driving noise. Inside, there are Alcantara applications throughout and a revamped upholstery design with orange accents.
