It is interesting that this EQC SUV is the first Mercedes-Benz vehicle to be launched under the EQ brand (which is all electric vehicles).
First shown to the world in 2016 at the Paris Motor Show, little interest was shared in our part of the world as fossil fuels were still very dominant.
With its seamless, clear design and colour highlights typical of the brand, it is a pioneer for an avant-garde electric look while representing the design idiom of Progressive Luxury.
When it comes to safety and comfort the EQC is the Mercedes-Benz among electric vehicles, and highly convincing in the sum of its attributes.
With an extended roofline, low waistline and the coupé-like roof recess at the rear, the EQC is more like a sports crossover in its form.
This EQC 400 4MATIC for Malaysian showrooms feature the AMG Line exterior and AMG body-styling, further finessed with a 50.8 cm (20-inch) AMG multi-spoke light-alloy wheels, aluminium-look running boards with rubber studs, MULTIBEAM LED headlights, and Windscreen wipers with rain sensors.
The EQC’s high-voltage lithium-ion battery is the central energy storage unit for the electric powertrain. Its high power density provides a usable energy content of approximately 80kWh (WLTP) at a weight of 655kg.
This is made possible by a modular system design with two modules of 48 cells and four modules of 72 cells, allowing the battery to be installed in the vehicle floor for a favourable centre of gravity.
The all new EQC 400 4MATIC features an alternating current charging system (AC charging) up to 11 kW and a direct current charging system (DC charging) up to 110 kW. For further ease, it will also include a charging cable for wall-box and public charging stations measuring at 5 m, straight.
Additionally, in the vehicle’s technology, Acoustic ambient protection is also included as a standard and DYNAMIC SELECT.
For the many current Mercedes GLC 300 owners who have access to battery charging and understand how to ‘live with an EV’, this EQC is the perfect replacement luxury vehicle when the time arrives for a new car in their garage.
At RM388,888 it is just a RM40k or so more expensive and offers faster acceleration time and almost double the torque. Plus, you get a very handsome looking sports SUV that ‘stands out’ in the corporate car park.
