The crash left the car almost unrecognisable
In a freak accident, four in a family narrowly escaped death when the car they were travelling in were rammed by a timber lorry in Kuala Ketil, Kedah on Sunday (26 June).
According to a Facebook post, the incident happened at Jalan Felda Teloi Timur heading towards Batu 5 Sik on Sunday at about 7.15 am. The stretch is said to be an accident-prone area and has seen several fatal accidents in recent years.
One of the victims, identified as Nurul Ikhwani binti Mohammad Zainon, 34, from Bandar Baru Beris Jaya, managed to escape the crash with minor injuries. Other victims in the car were Hapesah binti Ismail (72), Aina Safiah (16) and Adam Iskandar (12). All of them were treated by the paramedic team from Sik Hospital.
Meanwhile, the condition of the lorry driver, Mad Akhir Abu Hassan, 45, from Tasek Gelugor, Penang has yet to be ascertained.
At the time of writing, details pertaining to how the accident actually happened are still unknown but judging from the pictures of the crash, it is possible that the lorry could have collided into the back of the car at some speed, sending it crashing into the guardrail.
As a result, both the front and rear sections of the car were completely decimated, while all four doors left mangled. Not to mention, the right front and rear tyres were bent and the roof was crumpled due to the impact of the collision. The fact that all the occupants managed to get out of the car practically unscathed was truly miraculous.
Anyway, one can’t help but wonder why these timber lorries are still being allowed on the road when they clearly present a danger to other road users as not only are they aging, they also lack basic safety features such as ABS. The government and related organisations must step in before we see another accident involving one of these lorries because the next victim may not be so lucky.
