It’s basically an on-demand shuttle service that becomes more affordable if you book as a group
Good news, Petaling Jaya folks! There’s a new e-hailing service in town called Kumpool Ride which provides an on-demand shuttle service to popular spots within the Petaling Jaya area from as low as RM1.
With a fleet comprising of vans and minibuses, Kumpool Ride aims to provide an affordable alternative to the existing public transportation services. The service works by gathering passengers’ bookings in real-time and then travelling on a route based on everyone’s pick-up and drop-off stops. Currently, there are more than 120 stops in PJ.
To make a booking, download the Kumpool app and select the desired pick-up and drop-off spots from a list of preset locations. After clicking the “Book Now” button, customers will be issued a digital ticket with a QR code and must wait for their ride at the selected pick-up point 5 to 10 minutes in advance. You can check the exact location of the vehicle from the app.
Once the ride arrives, scan the QR code to board. The price of each trip is calculated based on the travelling distance and the number of passengers in a single booking. According to Kumpool, customers will be able to enjoy a significant reduction in price when they book their ride as a group.
For instance, the fare for travelling from Terminal Setia Indah to Caltex Taman Daya is RM3 for one passenger, and RM1.95 per passenger for a group of four.
That being said, Kumpool is charging a flat rate of RM1 per trip during its pilot period. On top of that, in conjunction with the launch of Kumpool Ride in PJ, the first 10,000 rides in the city will be provided free of charge.
Kumpool Ride is the brainchild of Kumpool, a division of Causeway Link, one of the largest public bus company providers in Johor Bahru. It was first launched in Johor Bahru and is now available in Subang Jaya and Petaling Jaya. The company is also offering an on-demand, same day delivery service called Kumpool Delivery.
