The chic crossover was accompanied by its Citroen sibling
It appears that the DS3 Crossback (possibly the fully-electric E-Tense variant) has been spotted road-testing somewhere near Bermaz Auto Alliance’s headquarters in Glenmarie, Shah Alam. In one photo, the crossover was even seen being followed by a Citroen C4 into the company’s parking compound.
As a refresher, the sole distributorship of new Peugeot vehicles and the rights of aftersales and spare parts distribution for the Peugeot, Citroen and DS vehicles in Malaysia was awarded to Berjaya Auto Alliance Sdn Bhd (BAASB) back in December 2020.
Could the presence of the DS3 Crossback as well as the C4 suggest that a launch is imminent? There’s no telling but it is certainly a positive sign for the two French marques, who were rather dormant under the previous management.
That being said, BAASB is only responsible for the aftersales and spare parts of the Citroen and DS brands, so these spyshots should be taken with a grain of salt.
Introduced in 2018, the DS3 Crossback is built on Groupe PSA’s all-new Common Modular Platform (CMP) which supports both internal combustion and pure electric powertrains. The internal combustion lineup is made up of 1.2-liter PureTech petrol and 1.5-litre BlueHDi diesel engines, both available in more than one output levels.
The fully-electric version, which is known as the E-Tense, is powered by a single electric motor with an output of 100 kW (136 hp) and 260 Nm. Power comes from a 50 kWh lithium-ion battery placed under the floor that gives the E-Tense a range of more than 300 km with the WLTP cycle (or 450 km with the NEDC cycle) on a full charge. Charging from 0 to 80% takes 30 minutes via a 100-kW public fast charger.
Meanwhile, the C4 is essentially the same car as the DS3 Crossback (as well as the Peugeot 208/2008), albeit with a sharper styling and a more coupe-like roofline. The electric variant is called the ë-C4 and it has the same amount of power and battery capacity as the DS3 E-Tense.
