Specifications of the 2.0L AMG powering the Lotus Emira has been officially shared.
Back when Lotus announced the Emira as the replacement to their legacy cars, it was known that it would be offered with two engines. The top spec models would be fitted with the familiar 400 horsepower supercharged 3.5L V6 from Toyota. It was also known that Lotus would be working with Mercedes-Benz for their base model 4-cylinder engine. The engine in question is none other than the M139 – the most powerful 4-cylinder petrol engine in any production car. It’s uniquely tuned to Lotus’ specifications and not exactly the same as the motor found on the Mercedes-AMG A45 S 4MATIC+.
In a recent press release, Lotus disclosed that this 2.0L AMG motor would be tuned to 360bhp, which puts it well below the 415bhp it’s capable of. This downtuning of the engine is likely done to preserve the status of the V6 as the flagship in the range. It may also have to do with emissions, efficiency and powertrain longevity. The 2.0L AMG engine will be paired to an 8-speed dual clutch transmission that sends power to the rear wheels.
This 2.0L engine also comes with own unique engine cover and C-pillar badging to help further distinguish it from the V6 model. Lotus are promising customers a wide selection of optional finishes and materials at no additional cost, with some cost options for a more personal touch.
The level of standard equipment is also relatively high. There’s a set of 20″ ultra-light V-spoke forged alloy wheels, two-piece brake discs, LED lights all round, a titanium exhaust finisher, heated power-fold door mirrors, rear parking sensors and a type pressure monitoring system. There are also heated seats with 12-way adjustability and two memory presets linked to the door mirrors for the driver’s seat. Climate control, cruise control, keyless start, voice control, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, USB/12v sockets, KEF 10-channel/340W premium audio system, a 10.25-inch centrally mounted touch-screen, a 12.3-inch TFT instrument cluster, a multi-function steering wheel and selectable drive modes are all part of the standard set of features on the Emira.
Exterior paint options include:
Seneca Blue, Magma Red, Hethel Yellow, Dark Verdant, Shadow Grey and Nimbus Grey.
Interior colour options include:
Red, black, grey and tan Nappa leather
or
Black Alcantara with either red, yellow or grey stitching
Pricing for the Emira four-cylinder will begin at £59,995, with the entry-level V6 models starting at £64,995 while the Emira First Edition starts at £71,995. Deliveries are set to begin at the end of 2022. 7 new colours will be offered in 2023.
