Haval H6 PHEV Ready To Board Ship For Thailand

Will Malaysia be its next destination?

A year after launching the Haval H6 Hybrid in Thailand, Great Wall Motors (GWM) looks set to expand the SUV’s engine lineup to include a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version. The model has been spotted by CarNewsChina at an unspecified port, apparently ready to be shipped out to The Land of Smiles.

However, this won’t be the H6 PHEV’s first time in Thailand as it had already made its debut in the country during the 2021 Thai Motor Expo held back in December 2021. Some details in respect of the powertrain were also released at the show.

First things first, under the bonnet sits a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine that is paired with an electric motor, resulting in a formidable total system output of 326 hp and 530 Nm of torque. With a large 41.5-kWh battery, the SUV is reportedly capable of covering up to 201 km on electric power alone, based on an NEDC cycle. That’s mighty impressive for a plug-in hybrid vehicle.

Looking at the figures, it appears that the H6 PHEV shares the same powertrain with the H6 Hybrid, and while the torque count remains at 530 Nm, that version has a significantly lower output of 243 hp.

Design-wise, the H6 PHEV follows in the footsteps of the H6 Supreme+, a 10-year anniversary special edition model, by sporting a frameless grille that has horizontal slats extending outwards and redesigned fog light housings. Everything else remains unchanged from the H6 Hybrid.

The similarity with the Supreme+ edition continues inside, where you’ll find a 12.3-inch touchscreen sitting atop the multi-layer dashboard, a rotary gear shifter on the redesigned centre console and vertical air-con vents. There’s also a second, smaller screen that will serve its purpose as a digital instrument cluster.

Will the Haval H6 PHEV make its way to Malaysia?

It is no secret that GWM is planning to return to Malaysia sometime this year, most likely with the H6, Jolion and Ora Good Cat as the first offerings. No mention was made on the H6 PHEV but we feel that its arrival will very much depend on the sales performance of the aforementioned models.
