The Audi SUV portfolio has been expanded in China to now include a new member – the Audi Q6.
The Audi SUV family has been growing over the years. In recent memory, vehicles like the Q4, Q4 Sportback and Q8 have been added and today we hear of a new model, called the Q6. The Audi Q6 is expected to be officially shown at the Beijing Auto Show 2022. The company is also working on a separate Q6 model that is rumoured to be electrified.
The new Audi Q6 looks to be a China-only exclusive which is made and marketed through the premium marque’s joint venture with SAIC. The new Audi Q6 is actually larger than the Q7 at 5,099mm in length with a 2,980mm wheelbase, 2,014mm in width and 1,784mm in height. It weighs some 2,205kg. For context, the Q7 has a longer 2,994mm wheelbase but its overall length is 5,025mm, width is 1,968mm, and height is 1,741mm. It is likely that the Audi Q6 sits on the same platform as the Volkswagen Atlas, which is also known as the Teramont in some markets.
In China, this behemoth of an SUV gets 3-rows of seats and is powered by a EA888 Evo 4 2-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine (either 40 TFSI or 45 TFSI) with a quattro all-wheel drive system and an automatic transmission. The 40 TFSI model has an output of 228 horsepower while the 45 TFSI model has its engine tuned up to 262 horsepower. No diesel or V6 is on offer for this Audi in China.
At least five different alloy wheel designs ranging from 17″ to 21″ across are available along with darkened trim parts. There also appears to be two front grille designs, but we’re not sure which one is considered the more upmarket design.
It is unlike this Audi Q6 will be sold outside of China. So, for now, Malaysian Audi fans will have to settle for the Q7 if they want an Audi with 3-rows of seats or for the Q8 if they want a large luxury SUV.
