Continental Tyre Malaysia welcomes Andrea Somorova as their new Managing Director.
Beginning January 2022, Continental Tyre Malaysia has been led by its new Managing Director, Andrea Somorova. Those who have been in the Malaysian automotive industry for a while may recognise Somorova from her previous stint at Continental Tyre Malaysia which lasted from 2004 to 2010. After her six year stint, Somorova was posted to Continental of Taiwan where she was a General Manager.
Andrea Somorova joined the Continental Group in 1999 in her native country of Slovakia. She then moved to Continental in Germany before being posted to Asian markets, serving in Malaysia and other APAC markets in managerial roles. She has spent 18 of her 23 years with Continental serving in Asia.
While in Taiwan, Andrea Somorova steered Continental to achieve the highest brand awareness among its Asia Pacific markets and led the team through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Somorova said, “It has been an amazing journey for me in Continental Group and the last five years leading the Taiwan business has been nothing short of extraordinary. My experience from Taiwan and beyond will serve me well in Malaysia which presents exciting opportunities for Continental, our team and our customers.”
“I am very excited to return to Malaysia and build on the work done previously. I look forward to guiding Continental Tyre Malaysia on its growth trajectory working closely with our teams on the ground to deliver innovative tyre solutions to our passenger and commercial vehicle customers. I always welcome new ideas from my team and believe that empowering them through trust, collaboration, and clear communication works best to deliver on our shared goals,” she said.
She takes over from Samir Gupta, who will now oversee the India Operations while continuing to head Continental’s Central Asia Region Passenger and Light Truck Tires Replacement Business. Under Mr Gupta’s leadership, the company opened a new mixing facility in Alor Setar.
