Zeekr – Geely’s all-electric premium sub-brand will be working with Intel’s Mobileye division on autonomous vehicles technology.
Geely is a brand with big ambitions, and Intel is a tech company that’s still reeling from losing its biggest industry partner Apple and losing its market dominance to AMD. What do you get when these two companies are in a room together? Well, it looks like you get plans to take on the autonomous driving market. Geely’s all-electric premium car sub-brand, Zeekr, will be partnering up with Intel’s Mobileye division to work on autonomous driving technology.
Now, we’re not talking about L3 self-driving, which is already available on a number of high-tech vehicles and waiting regulation change from the various governments around the world. We’re talking about hitting L4 self-driving capability by 2024, and getting there first, before Tesla or any of the other more established marques can.
Level 4 self-driving would mean a vehicle can drive itself without a human really needing to be present. The legislation will have to catch up, as even Level 3 self-driving is still not accepted in all but limited test cases.
Here’s the press release with more information.
