The all-electric BMW iX gets some love from BMW M in the form of the BMW iX M60.
The BMW iX is set to become the company’s first-ever venture into a purely electric SAV and one that Malaysians will soon see on our roads. Now it looks like a new BMW M variant of the iX has been shown and it packs even more power and some additional exterior trim elements to separate it from the rest of the pack. The BMW iX M60 is the second dedicated all-electric vehicle to get work done by BMW M after the BMW i4 M50. The BMW iX M60 will be built at the Dingolfing plant and launched in June 2022.
Under the Hood of the iX M60
The BMW iX inherently uses lightweight materials in its construction and has extremely good aerodynamics with a drag coefficient of just 0.26 cD in sport mode. The low position of the battery pack ensures great driving characteristics.
The iX M60 pairs two electric motors to the same 111.5 kWh battery found on the iX xDrive50 but cranks the output up by a significant margin. The vehicle is capable of delivering 619hp and 1100Nm of torque in Sport mode and with launch control. In day-to-day driving, the power output is still very good at 532hp and 1015Nm. This immense power gives the iX M60 a 0-100km/h time of just 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 250km/h, which is limited by the manufacturer. BMW says power delivery is consistent throughout the load range and acceleration is constant even when at high speed. The WLTP test cycle reveals its driving range to be 566 km.
Other performance upgrades on the iX M60 include an M-specific dual-axle air suspension system with automatic level control. In addition, the steering system features Integral Active Steering wth Servotronic function and variable ratios. An sports brake system has been fitted as well, and optional high-performance tyres are available.
