Here’s What Relief You Can Get With Or Without Flood Insurance

Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) took to Facebook to announce flood assistance from the insurance and takaful industry.

General and Motor Insurance Assistance from PIAM

Persatuan Insuran Am Malaysia (PIAM) will be donating RM2.43 million towards the establishment of a Flood Relief Fund @ Dec 2021 as a Corporate Social Responsibility initiative. This will initially go towards providing one-off subsidies for cleaning services cars (up to RM500) and motorbikes (up to RM100). No assistance will be offered for flood-related vehicle repairs at this time.

The RM2.43 million Flood Relief Fund will be closed once that amount has been exhausted. PIAM welcomes contributions from other parties or industries towards this Flood Relief Fund to extend it further.

Besides that, PIAM will be expediting claims settlements, providing additional special relief measures, and providing ad hoc ex-gratia assistance (depending on individual general insurers).

Life Insurance Association of Malaysia (LIAM) and Malaysian Takaful Association (MTA) relief

These two associations will be addressing the thousands of families who have been displaced from their homes by the severe floods and are having trouble paying their premiums/contributions on time. To this end, they will be granting extra time of a few months for payment of premiums/contributions, restructuring premium/contribution payment modes from annual to monthly, and extending the grace period from around 30 days to a longer time period.

In addition, they will be reducing or waiving the interest charges for policy/certificate loan and policies/certificates under the Automatic Premium Loan option. Finally, they are waiving the printing cost for insurance policy/takaful certificate/medical card replacement.
