Whether commuting to work or going on a weekend trip, this bike can do it all
Just two weeks after the arrival of the Yamaha MT-09, Hong Leong Yamaha Motor (HLYM) has now launched the new Tracer 9 GT sports tourer, which takes over the helm from the Tracer 900 GT.
Powering the newcomer is Yamaha’s newly developed 889 cc three-cylinder CP3 engine that churns out 117 hp at 10,000 rpm and 93 Nm of torque at 7,000 rpm. This represents an increase of 3 hp and 5.5 Nm over the 847 cc engine found on the model it replaces.
Tasked to channel the output to the rear wheel is a six-speed transmission, which features an Assist and Slipper clutch as well as a Quickshifter system. The transmission itself has also been optimised with higher ratios for the first and second gear to provide the right balance between torque delivery and ease of use.
As for the chassis, the Tracer 9 GT utilises a newly developed lightweight aluminum frame with a strong steel subframe to accommodate the large fuel tank and three hard rear luggage cases. The chassis is mated with KYB’s electronically controlled suspension that offers optimum damping force based on real-time running conditions. It has two modes, namely Comfort and Sport.
Spearheading the Tracer 9 GT’s suite of electronics is the six-axis Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), which covers the functionalities of the Traction Control System (TCS), Slide Control System (SCS), and front-wheel LIFt control system (LIF). There’s also a cruise control that can can be used when riding at a minimum speed of 50 km/h and in 4th gear or higher.
Other standard features include full LED lighting, LED cornering lights, adjustable windshield, heated grips and twin full-colour 3.5-inch TFT displays where intuitive, easy-to-read data are displayed.
Available in Icon Performance and Redline colour schemes, the Tracer 9 GT is priced at RM69,498 excluding insurance and registration fees. First 300 customers will receive a personalised key pouch by Royal Selangor.
