Toyota Aygo X production version fully revealed.
Ever since Toyota showed the Aygo X Prologue Concept, there has been a lot of excitement around a potential city crossover from the company. Toyota went ahead and confirmed a production model back in October and now we have full details for the Aygo X, set for a European debut.
Aygo X Mechanical Features
The Toyota Aygo X will be built on the smallest variant of the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) called the GA-B – similar to what the European Toyota Yaris sits on. The GA-B platform was adapted for the Aygo X by downsizing the rear section of the chassis with reduced front and rear overhangs.
Besides the high seating position and great visibility, the Aygo X’s drivability has been made exceptional thanks to some not-so-obvious tinkering. For one, this car has the lowest body-in-white weight of any A- or B-segment car in production. Its front bumper and wheel arch mouldings guide airflow slightly out from the tyres, reducing turbulence around the front and sides of the car.
Powering the Toyota Aygo X is the 1-litre 3-cylinder 1KR-FE petrol engine with improved emissions performance. It is mated to a new S-CVT for best in class initial response and great power-fuel consumption balance.
The Toyota Aygo X measures 3,700mm in length, 1,740mm in width, 1,510mm in height, and features 231 litres of cargo space. It has a super tight turning circle of just 4.7m. It will be available with a retractable canvas roof.
Spicy Looks
A set of spice-influenced colours have been confirmed for the production model. These include:
- Cardamom (green)
- Chilli (red)
- Ginger (beige)
- Juniper (Blue)
Each of these primary colours is paired to a black roof and rear end for a unique bi-tone look.
There will be a limited edition Aygo X in Cardamom with matte Mandarina (orange) accents throughout the vehicle for the first 6 months of sale. These will also feature bespoke 18″ matte black alloy wheels and interior accents in orange.
Big On Equipment
The Toyota Aygo X is fitted with quite a bit of kit despite its small size. A 300W JBL sound system with 4-spekaers and a 200mm subwoofer is optional on the Aygo X. The retractable canvas top is a segment first with great water and dust protection, as well as a new wind deflector structure.
The Aygo X has a large 9″ HD infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, ambient lighting, wireless charging. Importantly, it comes with Toyota Safety Sense as standard with a monocular camera and a millimetre wave radar. These allows for Pre-Collision System with vehicle detection, Day and Night Pedestrian Detection, Daytime Cyclist Detection, Collision Mitigation Support, Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Trace Assist and Emergency Steering Assist.
