Singapore’s Scorpio X1 Electric Scooter Open For Booking

At more than RM40,000, it is certainly not cheap

Singapore-based electric scooter startup, Scorpio Electric recently announced that it has started accepting pre-orders for its first product, the Scorpio X1. The e-scooter retails at USD9,800 (RM40,978) and can be booked via the company’s official website with a USD1,000 (RM4,181) deposit.

The company says deliveries of the X1 are expected to commence around late 2022 and early 2023. What’s interesting is that the e-scooter is available globally. So, technically, it is possible for me or you to buy it but needless to say, there are additional costs to consider such as transportation as well as duties and taxes.

Design-wise, the X1 takes the shape of a maxi scooter like the Yamaha TMAX 560 and Honda Forza 750, although it appears to be slightly smaller than those two. It comes in matte grey and matte black, both accentuated with some red accents, as well as front and rear LED lights. Other than that, there’s not much going on here.

On the technical side of things, the X1 is powered by a 10 kW electric motor built within the single-sided swingarm. That is enough to propel the e-scooter from 0 to 50 km/h in 4.2 seconds and to a top speed of 105 km/h. With juice provided by a 4.8 kWh lithium-ion battery, the X1 is capable of delivering a range of 200 km on single charge. The battery takes 2.5 hours to reach 90%.

Of course, the range depends on several factors including riding style. To that end, Scorpio has fitted the X1 with three riding modes, namely Eco, Urban and Sport. There is also a reverse mode that makes parking easier.

Other equipment available on the X1 includes keyless entry, remote lock, smart navigation system that can alert riders on adverse conditions or routes with high accident rates, vehicle locator and anti-theft alert. All these are available via a dedicated smartphone app.
