The popular Mercedes-Benz GLA crossover is now available as a locally-assembled vehicle.
Mercedes-Benz Malaysia surprised many by announcing that they would be locally-assembling two compact cars for the first time in history. We’ve already covered the locally-assembled A-Class Sedan. For this article, we’ll run through the specifications of the new locally-assembled variants of the GLA crossover.
The 2nd generation GLA was introduced to Malaysia in CBU form back in December 2020. Less than a year on, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has seen fit to start locally assembling the two variants that were originally brought in fully imported.
Here’s the pricing structure of the CKD GLA:
Like the A-Class Sedan, the Mercedes-Benz GLA is split between a 1.33L and 2.0L turbocharged petrol engine. However, in the GLA, the in-house 2.0L model sends power to the front wheels via an 8-speed dual clutch transmission.
The GLA 250 AMG Line also gets lowered suspension and a Direct-Steer system. This variant also gets light-alloy 18″ wheels, a nappa leather sports steering wheel, a black headliner, galvanised paddle shifters, ambient lighting and so much more.
Here’s the press release with more.
PRESS RELEASE
Priced at RM 242,888 for the GLA 200 and RM 278,888 for the GLA 250 AMG Line, both SUVs feature powerful overall proportions with short overhangs front and rear. The front section flows over the A-pillar into the visually compact greenhouse. Suggested power domes in the bonnet, along with its wheels up to 19-inch in size and mounted flush with the outer edge of the body, reinforce the self-assured appearance.
The clear contours, with reduced lines and accentuated planes, convey serene sportiness and modernity. Typical of the GLA are the powerful shoulders of the bodywork and the coupé-like lines of the side windows.
Two equipment lines are available: The GLA 200 is equipped in Progressive Line with 18-inch 5-twin-spoke alloy wheels while the GLA 250 is equipped with AMG Line bodystyling and 19-inch AMG 5-twin-spoke alloy wheels. The AMG Line enhances the attractive, sporty presence of the vehicle with lowered and dynamically tuned suspension to intensify driving experience.
The new GLA offers a spacious interior. This particularly benefits the legroom in the rear and luggage compartment. The seating position for both the driver and the front passenger is higher and more upright than in the predecessor model, and thus more typical of an SUV.
Utility value was, in general, one of the focuses of development. There is plenty of room for one or two people in the rear since these backrest variants come with a 40:60 split. The rear seat back rest can be split 40:20:40, with each section folding down individually.
The height-adjustable load floor offers considerable variability. When the rear seat backrests are folded down and the load floor is in the upper position, an almost flat loading area extending to the front seats can be created.
