The all-new, reimagined Land Rover Defender is now launched in Malaysia with two powertrain choices.
Malaysian Land Rover fans have been waiting for many months for the official launch of the new Defender. Well, it’s finally here after many spy shots and teasers.
Jaguar Land Rover Malaysia has only brought in the Defender 110, which is the 5-door version of the SUV. For now, the Defender 90 will not be available through official channels.
The Malaysian market Land Rover Defender is available with a choice of 2 powertrains:
- 2.0L turbocharged straight 4 petrol engine with 300PS for RM798,800
- 3.0L turbocharged straight 6 petrol engine + a mild hybrid system with 400PS for RM998,800
Regardless of which Ingenium powertrain one opts for, the Defender will come with an 8-speed conventional automatic ZF-sourced gearbox that sends power to all four wheels. The prices stated above are inclusive of the 50% Penjana Sales Tax waiver, but exclude Road Tax, Registration and Insurance costs.
Jaguar Land Rover Malaysia is throwing in a Land Rover Heritage Watch worth RM2,288 on every (while stock lasts) Defender registered in 2021 to commemorate Sime Darby and Land Rover’s 40th Anniversary of partnership.
Syed Ahmad Muzri Syed Faiz, the Managing Director for Jaguar Land Rover Malaysia, said, “while the new Defender is now fully equipped with the latest innovations and vast improvements, it remains Land Rover’s toughest and most capable vehicle built for adventure and exploration of the rugged outdoors.”
The new Defender has the most rigid monocoque chassis ever engineered by Land Rover. Its D7x body was constructed using lightweight aluminium and made the withstand some of the toughest conditions, including repeated and sustained impacts while off-roading.
“By incorporating the latest innovations, the Defender is ideal not only for 4×4 adventures but also for daily city driving. The upgrades reflect the times and the changing needs of the current generation of drivers,” he added.
The new Defender has a maximum towing capacity of 3,500kg and a maximum static roof load of 300kg. It is specified with Terrain Response, Adaptive Dynamics and Elegant Arrival with Electronic Air Suspension. To aid in manoeuvering, the Defender is fitted with a 3D Surround Camera with a 360-degree overhead view of the car as well as ClearSight interior rear-view mirror.
The cabin gets Pivi Pro entertainment, a Meridian Sound System, a heads-up display and a Click-and-Go System for additional accesories. An optional 5+2 seating arrangement is available.
