The five-seat commercial and passenger models will cost between £4,000 and £6,000 more, according to its UK Ineos boss Gary Pearson. Just to compare, the all new 2021 Land Rover Defender 90 is priced from £40,290, (RM226,000) with the larger 110 variant priced from £45,240. Wow, is the new Defender from Land Rover priced lower?

Ineos’s Australia dealer is sharing an indicative Australian starting price of AUD84,500 (which is about RM254,000 before taxes and approved permit costs are added on)) for the INEOS Grenadier and buyers need to wait for about a year before first deliveries start.

Meanwhile, pricing for the Land Rover Defender 90 and 110 ranges from AUD74,640 before on-road costs for the entry level petrol 90, up to AUD205,500 for the V8 110.

For South Africa Ineos buyers the prices will start from R1,395,000 (which is about RM385,000 before any loading of taxes and transportation) for the standard-wheelbase version and the Ineos Grenadiers will carry a three-year/unlimited mileage warranty.

Ineos Automotive SA will have three retail and service sites in the country. Prices start at R958,500 for the entry-level Land Rover Defender 90 and top out at just more than R1.5 million for the range-topping version.

In early December 2020, Ineos announced the start of the Grenadier production at the former Mercedes-Benz production site in Hambach. Hambach is a state-of-the-art facility with a highly skilled workforce and is well located for access to markets, suppliers and automotive talent.

In July this year, the a showroom ready Grenadier 4×4 was teased with its BMW sourced engines. Ineos engineers had decided to use BMW power in two versions. Both versions are 3.0-litre six-cylinder turbo units. There is of course a diesel engine with 246bhp and 550Nm of torque and a petrol engine that delivers 281bhp and with 450Nm.

The permanent four-wheel drive with shift-able low range and a central locking diff is Ineos’ own design, but power is transferred via an eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox.

The French-built, Austrian-engineered and British-conceived all new 4×4 is designed to evoke memories of the original Land Rover Defender which has been re-imagined by the Land Rover company as an up to date modern high technology off road luxury SUV.

The Ineos Grenadier should reach customers from the end of 2022, next year. Online reservations opened just a few days ago on 30 September, with sales commencing in July 2022.

For a start there will only one body-style to start, a relatively small number of colours and limited, but functional trim levels. Key to the Grenadier’s appeal will be an array of lifestyle accessories, many of which can be attached to the ‘utility belt’ along the car’s flanks.
