Judges claim the Outlander has one of the best interiors at its price point
When it was unveiled back in February, the all-new Mitsubishi Outlander wowed the crowd with its stunning exterior and interior design. The latter, in particular, was so impressive that WardsAuto decided to honour it with a ‘Wards 10 Best Interiors’ trophy in recognition of its design, technology and value.
The Outlander is the sixth car this year to be bestowed with the award but it doesn’t mean it has the sixth best interior in the category as winners are being revealed in a random, non-alphabetical order one per day until 15 October.
According to judge Drew Winter, the Outlander they tested is equipped with the optional SEL Touring package, which comprises black and tan synthetic leather door inserts, burnt orange stitching and accents on the instrument panel and centre armrest as well as diamond-pattern quilting on the seats and doors which mimics the automakers logo. A heated steering wheel, power panoramic sunroof and 10-speaker Bose audio system are also included.
Winter notes that at $38,590 (RM162,032 converted), the Outlander’s interior stands out from the crowd thanks to its luxuriousness, adding that the rich colours and textures are something that are usually found in much pricier vehicles.
In terms of functionality, Winter says the large 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster allows for quick phone pairing and Bluetooth connection, which gives users access to various types of useful information such as weather, traffic, sports scores, fuel and parking availability and even the stock market.
Equally intuitive is the navigation screen on the 9-inch infotainment display which offers 2D and 3D maps, as well as the ability to search a location by entering only the cross streets. This is complemented by a head-up display that provides turn-by-turn directions.
Additionally, those who find parking the Outlander challenging can rely on two reverse cameras and a front camera. Winter also claims that the brake assist feature managed to forestall an impending rear-end collision.
