With a low seat height and a kerb weight of just 198 kg, the SV 650 is perfect for beginners
As you may already know, Suzuki motorcycles are back in Malaysia and they are now under the management of Suzuki Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., with Group Executive Chairman Ahmad Faez Tan Sri Yahaya and General Manager Dato’ Jeffrey Lim at the helm. For starters, the company is offering six big-capacity models, namely the GSX-R1000, GSX-R1000R, Katana, GSX-S 750, V-Strom 650XT and the SV 650. In this post, we’re covering the SV 650.
For the 2021 model year, the middleweight naked bike dons a Pearl Brilliant White and Glass Sparkle Black bodywork to match the red metallic frame and cast aluminium alloy wheels. Stylized Suzuki ‘S’ 3D emblems on the fuel tank and the fork upper bracket complete the refreshed look.
The compact trellis frame is retained, so is the 645 cc, 90-degree V-twin engine that makes 73 PS at 8,500 rpm and 64 Nm of torque at 6,800 rpm. Tasked to transfer the output to the rear wheel is a six-speed transmission coupled with wet, multi-plate clutch.
Chassis-wise, the SV 650 is equipped with 41mm telescopic front forks, which have a generous 125 mm of wheel travel, and a rear monoshock with seven-way preload adjustment. The seat height is just 785 mm, among the lowest in the segment, while its kerb weight is 198 kg.
The braking system comprises a pair of fully floating 290 mm discs that are grasped by four-piston Tokico callipers at the front and a single-piston calliper, single-disc combo at the rear. ABS is fitted as standard at both ends. Other equipment includes LED lighting and full LCD instrument cluster.
The 2021 SV 650 is attractively priced at RM37,289. It comes with a two-year or 20,000 km manufacturer’s warranty.
