New colour choices aside, the Velar now comes with a cabin air filtration system and new ADAS features
Land Rover has announced 2021 model year updates for the Range Rover Velar, which see the luxury SUV gain some new colour options, a limited edition model as well as the latest creature comforts.
Range Rover Velar Auric Edition
Named after a Latin word for gold, Aurum, the Auric Edition is the R-Dynamic S variant that has been embellished with Auric Atlas trim finishes on the grille, badges, bonnet, door and front fender vents. There are three exterior colours to choose from, namely the Charente Grey (exclusive for this model only), Ostuni Pearl White and Santorini Black.
Completing its opulent look are 20-inch Mercurial Gloss Sparkle Silver alloy wheels and privacy glass. Customers, however, may opt for 22-inch Pincer wheels and a contrast roof.
Inside, upholsteries available include Windsor leather or sustainable Kvadrat premium textile. In addition to the standard Pivi Pro infotainment system, the Auric Edition also gets the Interactive Driver Display.
The Auric Edition is available in four-and six-cylinder engine variants, including the P400e Plug-in Hybrid, which boasts an all-electric range of up to 53km and CO2 emissions from only 49g/km.
More customisation options are available
Through the SV Bespoke Premium Palette selection, customers can now personalise their Velars with some of the most exclusive colours including Tourmaline Brown, Amethyst-Grey Purple and Petrolix Blue. If these are not special enough, they can create their own colour using the SV Bespoke Match To Sample service.
What other new features does the 2021 Velar have?
For the 2021 model year, the Velar comes with Cabin Air Purification Plus, which is an upgrade of the existing Cabin Air Ionisation with PM2.5 filtration system. It feeds fresh external air into the cabin when sensors detect CO2 levels fall outside of acceptable levels.
The Purify Cycle feature is also added as a standard feature, giving occupants the flexibility to schedule an air cleaning cycle inside the vehicle to ensure the cabin air is cleaned and not stale before any journey. Owners can also monitor interior and exterior air quality on the central touchscreen and activate the Purify mode whenever required.
Also updated is the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), which will now include Rear Camera as standard and Adaptive Cruise Control with Steering Assist. The latter enhances driver comfort, especially on long journeys, by gently assisting steering, acceleration and braking to ensure the vehicle stays in the middle of the lane and maintains its distance from vehicles ahead.
As for the infotainment system, Land Rover says the Velar will get both wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with the next over-the-air updates.
Pricing
The 2021 Velar is priced from £45,925 (RM265,135) in the UK, while the Auric Edition is on sale now in Germany at €70,085 (RM347,424).
