The 2022 Proton Iriz facelift returns the 1.6-litre engine, drops the manual gearbox and introduces a new crossover variant.
The Proton Iriz has been refreshed for the 2022 model year. With this refresh, Proton are spicing things up in the segment. However, the highly anticipated move away from Continuously Variable Transmissions to automatic gearboxes as seen on the 2019 Saga facelift is not on the table the new Iriz.
Let’s see what they’ve actually done to keep this 7-year-old product relevant.
This is not the first Iriz facelift
It’s important to note that the Proton Iriz has already been updated more than once. The first update came in 2017, just before the Geely partnership. This update addressed mostly mechanical shortcomings of the Iriz and gave it a tiny cosmetic update.
After the Geely partnership, the Iriz was updated again in 2019. This update added a new Geely-derived infotainment unit, an extensive redesign and more. In January 2021, Proton updated all models including the Iriz to be fitted with N95 cabin filtration.
This 2021 Iriz facelift brings yet more revisions to the infotainment system, the variant spread (including a new crossover-inspired variant), reintroduces the 1.6-litre engine option and more paint options. It’s also worth noting that the 5-speed Getrag-made manual gearbox is no longer offered on the Iriz.
