We already know from the prototypes driving around in Europe that BMW are working on the X8. However, rumours are suggesting that the X8 is going to be an exclusive for BMW M. Meaning, it will actually be called the BMW X8 M when released.
Why would BMW want to do it that way? Well, the rumours also suggest that this will be a particularly special model for BMW M themselves. It will be the first vehicle from the performance sub-brand to electrified. From teasers and spyshots, we still see the X8 M has exhaust pipes. Most likely this means that the X8 M will not be a fully-electric vehicle but a hybrid.
Last week, we shared renders of the next-generation 7 Series from Instagram user @BMW43_. This week, we return to his Instagram account for a look at what this X8 M might look like once the camo gets removed.
It is believed that BMW will bring in this new two-tiered headlight look not just to the upcoming 7 Series but to the upcoming X8 M too. This new headlight design integrates a slim set of daytime running lights on top and a thicker “layer” for the main beams below. Both of these join up to the absolutely massive kidney grille in the centre.
To each side, there’s a large air intake. It appears these intakes might be cooling the front brakes, but we’re not entirely sure. It’s possible they’re not functional at all or only open up at a certain speed. Lower still, at the centre of the bumper is a radar sensor, presumably for autonomous emergency braking and other driver aids.
Around back, we see the taillight graphics introduced on the recently announced X3 facelift. The bumper on this render is extremely angular and sculpted. Two hexagonal exhaust finishers are vertically stacked on either side with round tailpipes seen peaking through within them. There’s also a vertical strip that could be the rear foglights or just reflectors. We’re not entirely sure how accurate this render will turn out, but it is quite a busy looking vehicle we seem to have coming.
