Bentley Continental GT Speed Coupe and Convertible showcases an unrivalled combination of dynamic performance with this new chassis.
The new Continental GT Speed Coupe and Convertible represents the very pinnacle of performance grand touring, and defines the most dynamic road-going Bentley ever made, with no compromise to comfort or luxury. A combination of four chassis technologies gives the Continental GT Speed a level of agility, performance and ride quality that has been stretched to new levels.
The first ever Continental GT arrived back in 2003, yes it has been 18 years and today this luxury grand tourer is sitting in the Malaysian or probably every other used car market in the world at a very low price (between RM80k to RM110k) due to its high running costs and for Malaysia, its very high road tax fee.
Here comes a brand new Continental GT, selling price and road tax is no issue to the first owner as this is a must have for the very wealthy person. The GT Speed takes the 6-litre W12 engine option and extracts 650 horsepower from it. For context, the standard Continental GT with this engine gets 626 horsepower. Its torque rating remains unchanged at 900Nm. Besides the uprated power, the 8-speed dual clutch transmission has been recalibrated and is more suited to aggressive driving, especially in ‘SPORT’ mode.
These changes allow the 3rd generation Continental GT Speed go from 0-100km/h in 3.6 seconds, 0.1 seconds faster than the standard model with the W12 engine.
Bentley Dynamic Ride and three-chamber active air suspension with adaptive damping play a key role in the balance of the car and provide a formidable foundation to build upon. The optional and newly-developed Carbon Ceramic Brakes, Variable Electronic Stability Control, All Wheel Steering, and an Electronic Limited Slip Differential bolster the agility and performance even further.
Combining the new systems, the Continental GT Speed still maintains Bentley’s philosophy that a vehicle should feel progressive and secure, yet still be dynamic.
To achieve this philosophy in BENTLEY and COMFORT mode, overall grip is balanced between the front and rear wheels, while in SPORT this mode has been calibrated with a more rear-biased torque–split in all driving scenarios.
Chassis features that help this super luxury tourer hug the road include all-wheel steering. At lower speeds the rear wheels are steered in the opposite direction to the fronts for a quicker change of direction and nimbler feel. At high speeds, the rear wheels’ steer in the same direction as the front, to improve stability.
Active All-Wheel drive balances torque between the front and rear wheels, with a more rear-biased torque split in Sport Mode. Cornering grip is further enhanced by an electronic rear differential (eLSD) for the first time in a Bentley, while active air suspension with adaptive damping and Bentley Dynamic Ride anti-roll control system help to keep this large barge snapping at the heels of supercars in the bends.
