The Geely Xingyue L is the latest vehicle from the Chinese brand to be built on the CMA platform.
Geely has just unveiled the Xingyue L in China after teasing it last month. It’s the 3rd model from Geely to built on the Compact Modular Architecture (CMA), which was engineered by Volvo in 2015, and shared with Geely Auto Group. The other two Geely models with CMA underpinnings are the Geely Preface and Geely Xingyue. That’s right, there’s already a Geely Xingyue, that’s an SUV coupé.
This Xingyue L has more traditional SUV proportions and is a tad larger than the Xingyue. Despite having the conventional SUV shape, the styling is radically more modern on the Xingyue L. In fact, much of the marketing material surrounding the new SUV focuses on the new design philosophy of “Accelerating through Space and Time”… Whatever that is supposed to mean.
The Xingyue L is also touted as Geely’s new flagship SUV, despite being slightly smaller than the Geely Hao Yue. What you get, besides an evolution of the Geely design language, is a lot more technology and equipment.
Underpinnings
As mentioned before, the Geely Xingyue L is built on CMA, which gives it the kind of safety, performance, comfort and high-tech features that the most premium vehicles today have access to. Another major component that Geely co-developed with Volvo is the turbocharged 2.0L direct-injection petrol engine.
The engine has two outputs, with the high powered one having 175kW and 380Nm of torque, sending the car from 0-100km/h in just 7.7 seconds. The lower-powered 160kW and 325Nm output variant is no slouch either, completing the century sprint in just 7.9 seconds.
It is mated to the Geely Group’s 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission OR an 8-speed conventional automatic built by Aisin. A 6th generation BorgWarner four-wheel drive system with 50:50 torque distribution front to rear.
Five drive modes are available:
- ECO
- NORM
- SPORT
- SNOW
- OFFROAD
Headlights and taillights
Each of the headlights on the Xingyue L consists of 126 individually controllable LEDs and three distinct segments. This allows for custom lighting effects.
Around back, the dot-matrix taillights are made up of 176 LEDs and connected to form a continuous strip. There a cosmic-related light effects on this strip.
Interior
The Geely Xingyue L has a 2-tone interior, combining polished black with bronze with classic greenish verdigris patina. Suede upholstery is applied throughout the interior with Chinese motifs sprinkled throughout.
Geely also introduced a 10-speaker BOSE sound system into the mix with harmonic noise reduction technology to reduce engine noise that enters the cabin. 72-colour ambient is also present, and this is programmed to respond to the driving mode of the car.
The infotainment unit here is a whole metre across. It utilises 5G ultra-high-speed data and runs on 1920 x 720 resolution. The 5G connectivity allows for the Xingyue L’s standout features.
5G and Autonomous Driving
Thanks to its 5G capabilities, the Xingyue L has access to level 2 autonomous driving features. In specific areas, the Xingyue L can be summoned from a parking lot or commanded to find its own parking lot. This can be done within 200m of the driver.
This is also thanks to 12 ultrasonic radars, 5-millimetre wave radars, 4 high-definition surround-view cameras, 1 monocular camera, 1 dashcam, 1 interior camera and 24 environmental sensors. Talk about high tech!
The Geely Xingyue L comes with over-the-air firmware updates to keep the car updated as the company advances its technology.
