After a month of taking bookings, the new Toyota Fortuner is now in showrooms.
We’ve known since late December that UMW Toyota was planning to bring in the latest facelift of the Fortuner. However, MCO pushed back their launch date, and with no end to it in sight, they’ve decided to launch the car digitally.
Most of the details and specifications were shared before, but here’s a refresher along with more details.
Variants
Two variants of the Toyota Fortuner Facelift will be available in Malaysia:
- A diesel-powered Fortuner 2.8 VRZ from RM203,183
- a petrol-powered Fortuner 2.7 SRZ from RM172,244
There’s also a 2.4 turbodiesel model that’s only available in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan. You can check on the specifications of that car by clicking here. For clarity, we will not be covering that model in this article.
The 2.7-litre petrol (2TR-FE) engine produces 166PS @ 5200rpm and 245Nm of torque @4000rpm. The 2.8-litre turbodiesel, on the other hand, makes 204PS @3000-3400rpm and 500Nm of torque from 1600 to 2800rpm. Both variants feature a 6-speed conventional transmission that sends power through a part-time 4WD system. New this year is an Auto Limited Slip Differential for both variants of the Fortuner.
Both models also come with 18″ alloy wheels wrapped in tyres optimised for tarmac use. All four brakes are ventilated discs. Other standard features include:
- Paddle shifters
- Powered tailgate
- LED interior lights
- LED Daytime running lights
- LED taillights
- 9″ Display Audio system with Android Auto and Apple Carplay
- Optitron instrument cluster with 4.2″ multi-info display

Optionally, you can also add the following:

With all that kit, here’s what Toyota have reserved for the 2.8L VRZ, the flagship Fortuner.
Fortuner 2.8 VRZ Highlights
First of all, this new 2.8L diesel has been designed with a balance shaft that greatly reduces vibrations and noise levels. A SPORT mode is present to allow its full potential to be experienced.
Toyota have also fitted this variant with Variable Flow Control power steering for a more natural steering feel at any given speed.
The Toyota Fortuner 2.8 VRZ is also the only variant that comes with Toyota Safety Sense. This enables advanced driver assist features such as Pre Collision System (PCS), Lane Departure Alert (LDA), Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) and Yaw Assist. The system here uses both a camera and a radar module. Yaw Assist is only available on the Fortuner and new Hilux top models. It activates when Lane Departure is detected by braking the inner wheels slightly to get the car centred again.
This flagship Fortuner also comes with Quad LED headlights, sequential turn signal lights, and ambient lighting upon entry. This variant also comes with dual tone rims.
Colour Options
All variants of the new Fortuner come in the following colours:
- Attitude Black
- Phantom Brown Metallic
- Silver Metallic
- Medium Silver Metallic
The 2.7 SRZ and base model Fortuner can also be specified in:
- Super White II
- Bronze Mica Metallic
The 2.8 VRZ variant gets these exclusive two-tone combinations:
