Licensed drivers may still operate their motor vehicles on condition that the vehicle has a valid insurance certificate
Pos Malaysia has released a statement yesterday announcing the temporary suspension of road tax renewals for private vehicles at all post offices nationwide, effective 23 February to 31 March.
According to Pos Malaysia, the instruction to suspend the service came from the Road Transport Department (JPJ), with no reasons provided.
“All other services including driving license and vehicle insurance renewals are still available at all post offices nationwide,” the statement said.
Back in January, the Ministry of Transport announced that all private vehicle owners are exempted from renewing their private motor vehicle (LKM) and competent driving licenses (CDL) until 31 March. This was done in response to the second MCO.
Transport Minister Dato Wee Ka Siong said that licensed drivers may still operate their motor vehicles on condition that the vehicle has a valid insurance certificate (e-cover note). Drivers are required to display the e-cover note on their vehicles or present it to traffic enforcement personnel upon request.
The minister added that holders of expired LKM and CDL licences must renew their relevant licences within 30 days until April 30 after the exemption period.
The decision to exempt renewals of the LKM and CDL are similar to what was granted during the first MCO last year.
