According to Pahang police Traffic Enforcement and Investigations Department chief Superintendent Kamarulzaman Jusoh, the suspects, aged between 21 and 32, attempted to escape because the green Proton Satria had been reported stolen in Kuala Lumpur.

Kamarulzaman said the incident started at the Sri Jaya toll plaza in Maran when the EMPV personnel spotted the Satria speeding towards the East Coast Highway towards Kuala Lumpur.

The driver then turned the car around against the traffic flow and re-entered the toll plaza before making an exit to Jalan Kuantan-Maran towards Kuantan.

The EMPV chased the suspects’ car before it skidded and crashed into a lorry from the opposite lane, causing it to spin and hit the Mitsubishi ASX EMPV.

The suspects sustained head injuries after being thrown out of the car and were sent to Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan (HTAA). Meanwhile, the EMPV personnel and lorry driver were uninjured.

The case will be investigated according to Section 42 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving.
