Proton gave us a sneak preview at their upcoming SUV, which they confirm will be called the X50 at their Tanjung Malim plant earlier today. Here are key details you should know.
Four Variants
This was what most fake brochures had been guessing, and in fairness some of them got a few things right. However, we now have the most accurate picture of the X50 lineup and it goes like this:
a) 1.5T Standard
b) 1.5T Executive
c) 1.5T Premium
d) 1.5T Flagship
Here’s how each variant is equipped
The 1.5T Standard model is honestly quite well-equipped. It comes with a 1.5-litre turbocharged 3-cylinder petrol engine with 150PS and 226Nm of torque. This is paired to a 7-speed DCT. You get 4 SRS Airbags, Full LED headlights, 17” alloy wheels, fabric seats, rear air vents, a reverse camera and an 8” infotainment unit.
The 1.5T Executive model brings the airbag count to 6, adds a leather wrapped steering wheel, auto headlamps, front fog lamps and leatherette seats.
Stepping up to the 1.5T Premium, we find a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, 18” alloy wheels, Driver power seat, a 10” infotainment unit and 360-degree camera added.
The 1.5T Flagship model offers more power from the same engine, bringing the figures up to 177PS and 255Nm of torque. Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (including what looked like Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping and Forward Collision Avoidance systems). There’s also a panoramic sunroof and a dual-tone finish to the exterior (black roof).
Colour Options
There will be 6 colour options for the X50. Bear in mind that the X50 Flagship variant will come with a black roof regardless of which main exterior colour is chosen.
- Snow White
- Armour Silver
- Jet Grey
- Ocean Blue
- Citric Orange
- Passion Red
Open for Booking
No prices were shared, but if you’re impressed by what you’ve seen and heard, Proton will begin taking orders from all showrooms starting tomorrow (16 August 2020). The booking fee is RM500. The initial allocation of units is said to be 4,000 for 2020. But the factory at Tanjong Malim has the capacity to expand this to 8,000 should demand be exceeding high.
Slogan Contest
Proton still don’t know what they want the slogan for the X50 to be, so you can vote for your favourite one at their website soon.
