We’ve been hearing about the all-new Geely Hao Yue for months now. The D-segment SUV is set to elevate expectations for the segment. In China, the car has been launched, and we’ve covered most of its specifications here and here.
We have no doubt that Geely are keen to export this vehicle in one way or another. After all, the Boyue and Binyue SUVs have already proved their worth on the global stage.
Here’s what Geely have to say about their latest and largest, in their own words:
PRESS RELEASE
Geely Auto’s first D-segment vehicle, the Hao Yue, is here. With bundles of space, functionality and safety features, it is making a BIG impression on the market.
Sometimes more really is more. Take the new Geely Hao Yue for instance, not only is it Geely’s largest SUV but it makes full use of that space – perfect for those who like to ‘live it large’.
The resulting vehicle, the brands’ first in the D-segment, is big, measuring in at 4835mm long and 1900mm wide. What’s more, the car’s design makes full use of the space – the mechanics take up a minimum of room while the cabin space occupies 69% of the total vehicle, around 6-8% more than the industry average.
The Hao Yue, when in ‘cargo mode’ (with second and third row seats folded flat) has a storage capacity of up to 2360 litres. To put this in practical terms, the floor area can hold a double bed-sized mattress. Other large items like fridges, mountain bikes, and camping equipment fit easily in the Hao Yue with space to spare.
Moving onto the smaller storage spaces, there are no fewer than 42 in the car, ranging from the traditional glovebox to a nook under the centre tunnel space between the front two seats. Under the floor in the back is an innovative tatami-style system. Consisting of interlocking foam boxes, these allow additional hidden storage and, on account of the foam insulation, can keep items warm or cool.
The Hao Yue, though, is far more than a load-lugger; it is a car designed for groups, families, and anyone with large requirements. In the seven-seater version, each seat is individually-adjustable so every passenger can find their perfect ride position. The third row, while in most 7-seater vehicles only has space enough for small children, in the Hao Yue is capable of seating even taller adults. Thanks to the innovative magic space design concept where the ceiling adopts an arch bridge form for greater head room, so passengers can comfortably kick back and enjoy the ride. Opening up the whole car is a giant 60-inch panoramic roof which gives the interior a light, airy feel. Sensors will close the sunroof automatically upon detecting rainfall.
The exterior design builds on industrial aesthetics with an emphasis on strength and simplicity. Geely’s familiar expanding cosmos grill is given a 3D depth on the Hao Yue that flows into the headlights to make the front look wider. Drill claw fog lights reinforce the rugged looks as does the floating roof rack. At the rear, 154 LED light sources create a light and dark symphony.
For the driver there is both a 12.3-inch instrument panel and a HUD (heads-up display) which shows crucial information such as speed and navigation cues. There is also a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system which works in conjunction with the instrument panel rather than two independent systems. The in-car system includes a voice command feature for safe system adjusting while driving and further aiding the driver is Level 2 driver assist which includes functions such as adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assistance and automatic parking.
Making sure occupants stay healthy is Geely’s latest CN95-grade air purification system, which blocks out 99% of PM2.5 particles and 98 percent of droplets bigger than 0.74µm, helping to protect the vehicles passengers from unclean air and airborne viruses – something many consider a priority today. Occupants also get tri-zone climate controls, allowing the driver, front seat passenger, and rear cabin to adjust their individual air temperatures to suit.
Powering the Hao Yue is Geely’s dependable and efficient 1.8T unit coupled to a seven speed DCT gearbox. The transmission gives rapid shift times of just 0.2s making the driving experience smooth and comfortable.
The Hao Yue’s retail price means that is offers great value for money; a huge car with a small price tag. What’s more, the car comes with all the mod cons, safety features and build quality you could as for. “With the Hao Yue, the costumer doesn’t have to compromise on quality when they want a big SUV at this price segment” says Song. Indeed, with all of this included at this price, the Hao Yue is destined for big things.
