The long-awaited 2nd generation Subaru Levorg has finally been shown in the metal after months of concepts and prototypes. This is a follow up to the first Levorg, which was even brought in to Malaysia in limited numbers.
The new Levorg, looks exactly like what we saw in those prototypes and concepts, with the interior being the biggest reveal this time around. Outside, we see very familiar Levorg styling, though it is completely new and built on the Subaru Global Platform. The 1.6-litre turbocharged boxer has been replaced by a new 1.8-litre turbocharged boxer, also with direct injection. Its output has been increased from 170PS and 250Nm to 176PS and 300Nm of torque. The Lineartronic CVT is expected to make a return on this model.
In terms of dimensions, the new Levorg is 65mm longer, has a 20mm longer wheelbase, and there’s more usable space inside now with a 561L cargo area. Inside, we see a large, vertically-aligned/portrait-oriented 11.6″ colour touchscreen for infotainment and a 12.3″ digital instrument cluster. Apparently the rearview mirror is digital too!
There are rumours that an STI version of the Levorg will be coming as well with a 2.4-litre turbocharged boxer and a manual option to go along with it.
Will this new Levorg come to Malaysia? Perhaps in small quantities as before, but perhaps not at all. What do you think?
Here’s more information from the unveiling of the gen 2 Levorg Prototype.
PRESS RELEASE
Main features of the all-new Levorg Prototype
■ Exterior Design
Based on the Subaru’s common design philosophy “Dynamic x Solid,” the all-new Levorg applied the new design concept “BOLDER” that highlights the value and character of each Subaru model. Its design aims to express “the enjoyment to control the vehicle at will” and “passion inspires to challenge something that one has never tried before”.
■ Technologies that bring peace of mind in any driving condition
Next-generation EyeSight (Newly Developed)
With renewed stereo camera scanning wider viewing angle in combination with four radars located in front and rear bumpers, the next-generation EyeSight senses 360-degree around the vehicle and has expanded range of pre-collision braking operation to cover crossing and turning at an intersection of low visibility.
High-Definition map and vehicle locator (Newly Developed)
The locator precisely detects the vehicle position by utilizing information from GPS and Michibiki (Quasi-Zenith Satellite System). In combination with high-definition map data, the vehicle recognizes the shape of highway ahead, reduces speed before going into a curve and assists hands-free driving in traffic congestion.
Connected services (First time in Subaru for Japan market)
As “Connected Safety,” the Advanced Automatic Collision Notification system automatically sends an alert to an operator who immediately contacts the fire department and police department to request for a rescue and also coordinates with cooperating hospital for prompt lifesaving, when it detects a big impact from a collision. The vehicle also gets connected to an operator by a push of the button in case of emergency such as driver’s medical problems.
■ Technologies that enable truly pleasing driving experience for all drivers
1.8L horizontally-opposed direct-injection turbo engine (Newly Developed)
The new Boxer turbo engine with lean-burn technology balances acceleration and environmental performance at a high level. It also brings superior dynamic quality with its strong torque.
Subaru Global Platform & full inner frame construction
Subaru Global Platform has evolved in combination with full inner frame construction that enhances body rigidity further. With superior controllability and dynamic quality, the vehicle offers pleasing driving experience for all drivers and passengers.
