Ferrari Roma, F8 Tributo and SF90 Stradale Bag Red Dot Awards

It seems the coronavirus can’t hold back the international award season. Last week we had the World Car of the Year Award where Kia and Mazda won big. Before that, IF Design handed out a few awards a couple of months ago, and we also have news from Red Dot about their design-based awards. This year, three Ferraris took home Red Dot awards, including the Roma, F8 Tributo and the SF90 Stradale, which won the Best of the Best award for 2020.

This marks the 15th Red Dot award that Ferrari has won, and the SF90 is the 6th consecutive Ferrari to win Best of the Best.

About the Ferraris that won this year’s awards

Ferrari Roma

The Roma is a grand touring sports car placed between the ‘entry level’ Ferrari Portofino and the more performance focused F8 Tributo. The Roma features a 3.9L Twin Turbocharged V8 and an 8-speed DCT.

Ferrari F8 Tributo

The F8 Tributo can be looked at as the direct successor to the 488. This mid-engined, rear wheel drive supercar was first shown last year. It brings Ferrari’s mid-engined supercar range forward in terms of design and technology, but applies the same 3.9L Twin Turbocharged V8 – the most powerful the company has produced to date. This is paired to a 7-speed DCT.

Ferrari SF90 Stradale

The SF90 Stradale is a mid-engined plug-in hybrid electric berlinetta. It combines an evolved version of the 488’s V8 which now displaces 4-litres with 3 electric motors. It has a total power output of 986hp and 800Nm of torque. It has an 8-speed dual clutch, with reverse being solely electric powered.

About Red Dot Design

Red Dot looks back at a tradition spanning more than 60 years. On 30 July 1954, “Verein Industrieform” association was founded at the initiative of the head of Krupp’s Public Relations and Advertising department, Professor Dr. Carl Hundhausen. The aim of the association was to help make a more attractive environment, to modernise German consumer goods and make them fit for export and to be part of transforming the image of Krupp in the wake of the Second World War. 1955 saw the first annual design competition come into being, and on 5 October the exhibition “Ständige Schau formschöner Industrieerzeugnisse” (‘permanent exhibition of attractively designed industrial products’) opened in Essen’s Villa Hügel. The innovative consumer goods exhibition was considered a standard-setting presentation that served as a model for industry and consumers alike and met with global attention.

PRESS RELEASE

The Ferrari Roma and the F8 Tributo receive the Red Dot Award

Ferrari has just received the prestigious 2020 Red Dot: Best of the Best award for the SF90 Stradale and two Red Dot awards for the Ferrari Roma and the F8 Tributo.

These accolades are further recognition of the ongoing work carried out by the Ferrari Styling Centre, under the direction of Flavio Manzoni, to create distinctive designs for the Prancing Horse’s sports cars while, at the same time, underlining the unique symbiosis between form and function engraved in the marque’s DNA.

The Red Dot awards, assigned annually since 1955, are among the most important and prestigious honours in the design industry. They aim at celebrating the excellence and innovation of the world’s best designers. The 2020 award ceremony of the Red Dot Award: Product Design is due to be held in Essen, Germany on June 22nd.

Since 2015, Ferrari has received no fewer than 17 Red Dot Awards. In the history of the award, no other automotive manufacturer has ever achieved this result. The jury has granted the highest distinction in the competition, the Red Dot: Best of the Best, on six Prancing Horse models in a row. After the FXX-K, 488 GTB, J50, Ferrari Portofino, and Monza SP1, this year sees the SF90 Stradale receive the accolade for the innovative lines that encapsulate the car’s mission as an extreme sports car.

The SF90 Stradale is Ferrari’s first series-production Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) and represents the beginning of a new chapter in the brand’s history. The model is extreme on every level and delivers unprecedented performance compared to any other production car on the market, including its 1,000 cv output and its weight-to-power ratio of 1.57 kg/cv.
