The new Land Rover Discovery Sport has been officially launched in Malaysia in a sole R-Dynamic variant, with a choice of two seating configurations, the five-seater (RM379,800) and the high-spec 5+2 seater (RM409,800).
Design-wise, the updated model features new signature LED headlamps at the front and rear, alongside a new front grille and bumpers. Land Rover’s trademark design which includes a clamshell bonnet, rising beltline and a tapered roof are maintained.
Under the skin is Land Rover’s new Premium Transverse Architecture (PTA) which is is 13% stiffer than its predecessor, with rigidly-mounted subframes that reduce noise and vibration.
Inside, you’ll find a 10-inch high definition Touch Pro infotainment system which includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Interactive Driver Display is fitted as standard with a 12-inch high-definition screen that displays multiple driving information, entertainment and active safety data.
New for the Discovery Sport is the ClearSight Ground View technology that provides drivers with a clear virtual view of the ground in assisting them to navigate through rough terrains, park in tight spaces and to avoid side kerbs on the road. Also available is a second-generation Head-Up Display and wireless charging mat that is located below the centre console.
For the Malaysian market, the Discovery Sport comes with a 2.0-liter turbocharged Ingenium petrol engine that makes 200 hp and 320 Nm of torque. The mill is mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission from ZF.
Power is channeled to all four wheels via Driveline Disconnect, which has been employed into the All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system. It works by disconnecting the drive of the front axle to the rear wheels under steady state cruising, thereby reducing frictional losses and re-engaging AWD in less than 500 milliseconds.
The Discovery Sport is also equipped with the new Terrain Response 2 system with Comfort, Sand, Grass-Gravel-Snow, Mud & Ruts as well as the Auto mode. Each driving mode tunes the response of the throttle, brakes, differentials, and transmission to deliver premium handling.
As for safety, the SUV boasts seven airbags, front and rear parking aid, High-speed Emergency Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist and Driver Condition Monitor as well as the 360° Surround Camera with Wade Sensing features.
All vehicles distributed by Jaguar Land Rover Malaysia are compatible with the Malaysian climate, environment, fuel quality and meet the Malaysian emission standards. The vehicles come with ‘Land Rover Care’ programme which includes five-year/150,000km warranty, five-year/65,000km servicing and three-year roadside assistance.
