Carscoops has come up with this render of what they imagine Mitsubishi Motors SHOULD be making by the year 2023. It’s essentially a reboot of the Galant VR-4 model, which was discontinued in the early 2000s.
It’s a rather strange place to start for a render given the Galant VR-4 is the top-of-the-range performance model of a nameplate that isn’t even rumoured to be in development. It’s not even based on this other fan-made render of an imaginary 2020 render.
Be that as it may, the Galant VR-4 render hits all the right notes. It features the latest design developments in Mitsubishi’s Dynamic Shield face, but also adds that little ‘widow’s peak’ on the grille that the Galant has sported in the past.
The car they imagine is powered by the same system that was featured in the Mitsubishi Mi-TECH concept, which was shown at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show. That means it’s essentially an electric vehicle, but with a fossil fuel powered range extender motor. The car runs of battery power, but to keep the battery juiced up, a little gas turbine engine kicks in and charges it.
We think marrying this concept powertrain that Mitsubishi NEEDS to stay relevant with a concept car that Mitsubishi’s fans WANT for the brand to stay respected is a pretty good idea.
