Electric Hyundai KONA Coming to Malaysia Through COMOS Leasing?

Earlier today, we received a peculiar little pdf form indicating that COMOS Malaysia was surveying the market to gauge local interest in the all-electric variant of the Hyundai Kona. The pdf particularly highlighted a leasing package that would be put together by COMOS Malaysia with no official support from Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors (HSDM). This was later confirmed by top level brass at HSDM. These would most likely be purchased directly from Korea or perhaps as gray units from the UK. Demand for the Kona Electric is so high there that you have to be put on a waiting list.

According to the documents we received, COMOS Malaysia would service the leasing programme which is expected to be 5 years long. Two specifications are being brought in: either the 39.2kW or 64kW versions.

According to this website, both of these variants were available in the UK at one point, but thing may have changed since the waiting list began.

The difference between the two variants is primarily in the battery capacity, range and power output. However, the 64kW model brings additional equipment. Importantly, BLIS, RCTA, a Heads up Display, and Wireless phone charging. That being said, the 39kW model is respectably equipped as well.

Leasing through COMOS starts at RM4,300 a month and including a wall charger, annual road tax, maintenance, and wear and tear. The most obvious rival is the Nissan LEAF which can also be subscribed to through Edaran Tan Chong Motor for 3 years at RM3,500 a month or 2 years for RM4,500 a month. That being said, the subscription model for the Nissan LEAF covers different costs. Refer to this website for more details.

So, would you consider a Hyundai Kona Electric subscription? Do you think HSDM should bring the car in and try the subscription model themselves through Flux? Let us know.

Register Your Interest Now for the Hyundai Kona Electric

5 years ago, we started the electric car revolution in Malaysia with the Renault Zoe and Renault Twizy. Even right now, we still hold the largest fleet of electric cars in the country. We managed to put more than 50 units of electric cars on the road through clients who have subscribed to our services. We also have deployed hundreds of electric bicycles through our UNiRide bike sharing program.

Now is the time for us to look into newer models to grow our fleet. From our past experience, we now have a better understanding of the market demand with regard to electric vehicles. New models are now available globally. We have identified the Hyundai Kona Electric as one of the models that would be suitable for the Malaysian market.

Available with Local After Sales Support

Just like our previous arrangement with the Renault Zoe and Twizy, we are looking forward to introduce the Hyundai Kona Electric in Malaysia with full after sales support from the manufacturer. This can only be achieved by going through the official channel and not through a grey import arrangement. By offering a subscription service, we would be a single entity to purchase a fleet of the Hyundai Kona Electric from the manufacturer.

Our EV subscription package is different from the packages offered by other parties. Our leasing package includes:

  1.  The annual road tax and insurance renewal
  2. The scheduled service and maintenance
  3. The wear and tear parts replacements

We would also provide a replacement unit in some cases, terms and conditions apply.

If the interest for the Hyundai Kona Electric subscription is big, we would be able to make a special arrangement with the official channel to get the necessary support locally. In fact negotiations are already taken place right now. As such, if you are interested to be one of the first people in Malaysia to drive around in the Hyundai Kona Electric, please sign up in the form below. We will get in touch with you again once we have a firm schedule for the availability of the EV.

More on COMOS Malaysia

COMOS started the car sharing concept in Malaysia when the country’s first EV car sharing program was launched in Kuala Lumpur at the end of May 2015. Being a foreign concept to the market back then, progress was indeed slow. Furthermore, the majority of the customers opted to rent the electric cars for the whole day instead of using it for a shorter period. As a result, COMOS has now shifted the focus from the EV car sharing program to a more conventional personal car rental business model. Nevertheless, we did not abandon the car sharing concept altogether but instead with the experience gained, we embarked on an electric bike sharing program at universities. Moreover, COMOS has ventured into green tourism and we are now offering Ecoride nature tour packages as well. At the same time, the demand for electric vehicle fleet by corporate clients is growing. As a result, our corporate branding and leasing packages are taken up by more clients and some of them can be found in the pictures below.
