MAZDA CX-8 Bookings Open With RM190k to RM210k price

Mazda dealers are sharing this pricing with potential customers today

The Mazda CX-8 is an all new product to the Mazda range of vehicles and it is in all Mazda showrooms right now for your ownership. This locally assembled Mazda CX-8 is a SUV that sits between the super popular CX-5 SUV which is locally assembled and fully imported CX-9 SUV on the sizing scale, offers a 3-Row seating configuration which represents a new option for growing families or customers who want to enjoy outings with friends and do not want to sacrifice fuel efficiency, space, safety and driving performance. This CX-8 employs the CX-9’s platform but the CX-8’s body is 17cm shorter in length, 13cm narrower in width and its heighy is almost identical.

Its selling price is still pending and we reckon a possible asking price of between RM190,000 to RM210,000 pending government approval.

Mazda’s new CX-8 fills the niche by delivering the company’s only seven-seat SUV with a diesel engine. The CX-8 brings the number of SUV models in Mazda Malaysia’s already impressive line-up to four SUV’s catering to almost every SUV segment introduced. This CX-8 provides more Malaysia buyers  the option of a diesel engine when purchasing a large-size SUV. Immediate rivals are the Kia Sorento diesel an the Hyundai Santa Fe diesel.

Mazda continues to work to achieve substantive reductions in CO2 from a well-to-wheel perspective that considers emissions over the vehicle’s entire life cycle.

The CX-8 features an updated version of our SKYACTIV-D 2.2, the engine responsible for much of the growth in the clean diesel market in Japan in recent years. The updates are the most substantial since the engine’s introduction in 2012 and have resulted in a much quieter engine and significantly enhanced driving performance.

At the same time, Mazda engineers have applied innovations and technologies designed to improve fuel consumption and reduce harmful emissions under real-world driving conditions. As a result, the CX-8 delivers outstanding fuel economy and environmental performance.

The Mazda CX-8 also features a sophisticated design, courtesy of Mazda’s KODO design language. Mazda strove to create a look both timeless and edgy for the CX-8 design. The aim was to deliver timeless beauty and a premium feel in a package that will continue to excite owners and enhance their driving experience for years to come.

The Mazda CX-8 has an

  • overall length of 4900mm,
  • wheelbase of 2930mm,
  • width of 1840mm and
  • Height of 1725mm.
  • Unladen ground clearance 205mm
  • Turning circle is 5.8m
  • Kerb mass of 1957kg

On the exterior, the Mazda CX-8 fits seamlessly into Mazda’s existing line-up, with a powerful road presence, with strong horizontal lines characterising the front face. The width of the front face is emphasized by the low position and sharp design of the headlamps and the spread of the signature wings. The front grille also adopts a new design that features horizontal silver bars. Piano black garnishes and chrome-plated mouldings enhance this expression, adding a touch of refinement and elegance to the overall form.

Mazda CX-8 2nd row seating

Based on the human-centered design philosophy that stands as the foundation of Mazda’s car development, a concerted effort was made to create a cabin environment that provides occupants in all three rows with a refined, comfortable ride. Development of the cabin space was aimed at fully utilising the available space and create an environment that allows each occupant to sit comfortably, adopt a natural posture and enjoy the drive. The goal was a design that would allow a person of any size to find an ideal driving position in the front row, offer roomy comfort even for large adults in the second row, and still accommodate occupants up to 170cm tall in the third row.

In line with Mazda’s human-centered design approach, ergonomics dictated the height of the third-row seat cushion and a space was created beneath the second-row seats to accommodate occupants’ feet. As a result, occupants can find a natural and comfortable seating position in the third row.

Furthermore, the rear doors on the CX-8 open up to 80º for added convenience when loading or unloading large items, or even attaching, detaching or adjusting a child seat. To make it easier to enter and exit from the third row, the door is made wide to increase the amount of space available when opened.

As a three-row SUV for the family, one goal for the CX-8 was to realize a quiet cabin environment that enables occupants in all three rows to enjoy stress-free conversation without raising their voices. A number of measures were implemented to ensure reduction of road noise, wind noise and enhanced noise insulation for the cabin. Vibration-dampening material in the rear fender panels suppress vibration that would otherwise become a source of noise in the third row. A reduction in the gap between the roof moulding and roof spoiler were implemented to reduce wind noise. And sound-absorbing material were applied at the base of the D-Pillars to help reduce the amount of noise at the third row.

Meticulously building the CX-8 to meet these criteria resulted in a comfortable cabin space all occupants can enjoy on long drives.

Like all our new-generation models, the CX-8 has been designed under the Mazda Proactive Safety philosophy and provides a driving position and pedal layout that enhances safety and peace of mind. It also features excellent visibility and their latest Active Driving Display to reduce the length of time drivers’ eyes are off the road. Furthermore, with i-ACTIVSENSE advanced safety features as standard equipment, all model grades qualify for a “Safety Support Car S – Wide” rating under the public awareness campaign being run by Japan’s METI and MLIT. Mazda engineers made these technologies standard across the range in order to offer all our customers safety and peace of mind.

Standard safety features include:

  • Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM),
  • High Beam Control (HBC),
  • Intelligent Speed Assistance (ISA),
  • Lane-keep Assist System (LAS),
  • Lane Departure Warning (LDW),
  • Mazda Radar Cruise Control (MRCC) with Stop & Go function,
