Proton has launched the X70 Merdeka Edition (ME) at Ming Heng Motor’s 4S showroom in Setapak. Only 62 units will be made available, in commemoration of Malaysia’s 62nd independence day celebration on August 31.
Based on the Premium variant, the X70 ME is offered in Flame Red and Snow White, with both sporting Quartz Black roof and A-pillars. Door visors have also been added, along with a rear bumper scuff plate and a customised Merdeka Edition emblem on the tailgate as a finishing touch.
Inside, the limited edition model gets new floor mats, a trunk mat and a special numbered Merdeka Edition emblem on the dashboard. The Nappa leather seats and glass roof as well as the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) found on the Premium variant are all carried over in the ME.
“The Proton X70 Merdeka Edition was born out of Proton’s desire to celebrate Malaysia’s Merdeka anniversary month. We are extremely thankful for the support Malaysian car buyers and the Malaysian government has shown to Proton, so this is the Company’s way of creating a special version of the Proton X70 as a small gesture of thanks to all Malaysians,” said Dr Li Chunrong, CEO of Proton.
The X70 ME is priced at RM126,100, which translates to an increase of RM2,300 over the regular X70 Premium 2WD variant.
