Mercedes-Benz Malaysia starts export of locally-assembled C 180 to Philippines

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) announced that it will begin exporting its best-selling limousine, the C-Class, to the Philippines this month.

The exact model to be exported is the C 180 Avantgarde Line in left-hand drive version. The vehicles are assembled locally at the Mercedes-Benz Malaysia plant in Pekan, Pahang.

The Philippines export initiative will mark a new chapter for MBM and signifies the start of similar initiatives within Southeast Asia.

“In support of the country’s international trade industry within the SEA region, we will begin exports this year. The export of our best-selling limousine, the C-Class, to the Philippines allows us to extend our expertise and enhance Mercedes-Benz Malaysia’s brand image regionally,” said Dr. Claus Weidner, President & CEO of Mercedes-Benz Malaysia.

Besides having logistical advantages of domestic assembly, the export of the left hand drive vehicles from Malaysia will also provide a ready market and more opportunities to local auto part makers.

The C 180 features a 1.6-liter M274 petrol engine that makes 156 hp and 250 Nm. Equipped with a nine-speed dual clutch transmission, it can complete the 0-100 km/h sprint in just 8.6 seconds.

Exterior-wise, the car comes with Avantgarde Line kit, 17-inch five-twin-spoke wheels as well as high-performance LED headlamps. Inside, it gets Artico leather upholstery, aluminium trim and ambient lighting.

Other standard equipment includes Active Brake Assist, 10.25-inch media display with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and 12.3-inch instrument cluster.

“As we set to expand our production volumes, we have undertaken technological upgrades at our plant to enhance our ability to cater to a more robust production portfolio and contribute towards an increased market share of Mercedes-Benz vehicles locally and regionally,” Dr. Claus added.
