Nissan have shown an enhanced version of their Navara pick-up truck. The new Navara will go on sale across Europe immediately, but no word on its arrival anywhere else.
Mechanical Changes
Mechanical improvements have been made to the suspension, which allow for lighter steering. What’s more, the Navara’s payload has been increased with the double cab variant now able to carry 54-114kg more than before.
The rear suspension has been lifted by 25mm and a 2-stage coil spring gives the vehicle a more aggressive stance now. Intelligent Trailer Sway Assist technology has been added. 308mm rear disc brakes replace the drums and the discs at the front have gone up in size from 296mm to 320mm.
The Navara now also comes with a new 6-speed manual transmission. The layout of this manual shifter follows the European convention of placing reverse up next to first in the H pattern. The 7-speed conventional automatic gets updated tuning for greater comfort, refinement and responsiveness.
The engine in this updated European Navara is a 2.3-litre turbo diesel that outputs either 163PS and 425Nm of torque or 190PS and 450Nm of torque depending on the configuration.
The inline 4 engine features steel pistons and Diamond-Like Carbon Coating to piston rings. It has a lower compression ratio (15.1 vs 15.4 before) and fuel injection pressure has increased (2000 bar to 2200 bar) thanks to a new pump. A new water cooling system and exhaust system with a diesel particle filter and selective catalytic reduction technology keeps this emissions-compliant.
It’s worth noting that the base 2.3-litre engine was already present on the pre-updated European Navara. There’s a good chance it won’t come to Malaysia at all.
Cosmetic Changes
The aesthetics of the car have been mildly improved. We talked about the car’s new aggressive stance, but it also comes with new wheel designs that now come in 16″ and 17″ sizes. LED headlamps with black inner shell replace the previously chromed inner design.
Inside, a new 8″ infotainment unit will be featured with higher resolution than before and better touch response. The system is Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compliant. In the European market, the system comes with a telematics control unit and a built-in 4G device for in-car WIFI.
There’s also a King Cab version, but since these aren’t sold in Malaysia, we’ve omitted it here.
