We answer this question for a friend who showed us an advertisement selling a used Proton X70, hoping to get our opinion against buying a new Proton X70.
The NEW selling price for a high specification Proton X70 is RM123,800 and a used unit advertised on a popular online portal was between RM108k to RM115k. Looking at this price range for a 4 month old X70 our advice was to buy new, especially since stock is readily available and the saving for a used 4-month old unit is just RM15,000 to RM8,000. Even if you take in consideration the ‘art of bargaining’, the best you could do might be a saving of about RM20,000 by pushing the dealer to sell you the RM108k advertised X70 for RM103k.
Think about it. Question? Why would the owner sell their Proton X70 just 4 months after buying it unless there are problems with the SUV? Did some one pass away in the car? Did the X70 have an accident and end up in a Parit? Did someone vomit blood in the X70? This and many other silly reasons might be why a 4 month old popular SUV is up for sale.
It can’t be an owner with financial issues as selling their X70 for RM15,000 to RM20,000 losses will not even cover the money owed to finance (unless they bought their Proton X70 for cash) or they suddenly need to leave the country.
Our suggestion, buy new, it is still a better option than buying used.
