We spotted this new Daihatsu Copen in the VVIP car park space at the Proton headquarters, Center Of Excellence, Shah Alam. When we asked the public relations team at Proton about the car, they replied that it belonged to Malaysian Prime Minister and the ‘father’ of Proton Tun Mahathir and it was during his advisory role at Proton (before the takeover of Proton by Geely) the car was brought in and parked for his use.
In our many visits to Proton prior to Geely taking over we have never spotted this Daihatsu Copen and only now we see it.
Could this be a message from Tun Mahathir to the new Proton management?
We wonder, as we know that Tun Mahathir was not the happiest person when Geely bought into Proton and the research and development at Proton was taken over by Geely engineers and now we see rebadged Geely vehicles making an entry into Malaysia (with huge success).
The average Malaysian is not complaining and in fact we are quite happy with the current progress of Proton and the fact that Proton is no longer a burden to Malaysian tax payers.
We wonder why this Daihatsu Copen is not parked at the Perodua headquarters VVIP car park in Rawang where it will probably be more at home surrounded by its automotive siblings.
