The Alfa Romeo logo is perhaps the biggest hallmark of Alfa Romeo, largely because it has remained unchanged since the creation of the brand. Few have been the changes that have undergone during these more than 100 years , only slight adjustments to adapt it to the passage of time, but always maintaining the main elements.
The badge was created by Romano Cattaneo , who chose to mix in the same logo the flag of Milan , with the cross of St. George on a white background, and on his right a viper devouring a man with a golden crown on the head of the animal. This image belongs to the coat of arms of the Visconti House , which, together with the Sforza House , represent since 1450 the Duchy of Milan.
The purchase in 1915 of Nicola Romeo of ALFA made the name officially become the Alfa-Romeo, while the most substantial modification would come in 1946, when it was decided to remove the script and knots of Savoy . Over the years, the gold gives way to chrome, tone that gives a more current image to the whole.
