0Here’s How McLaren Special Operations Made the 600LT Spider Extra Special
McLaren Special Operations (MSO) has done quite a number of spectacular one-offs for customers. They’re aiming to impress potential 600LT Spider customers at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show with of their bespoke designs.
The car their bringing is said to be a tribute to the 600LT’s predecessor, the 675LT (yes, McLaren nomenclature has a logic of its own).
For the showcar, MSO went with a Dove Grey body. Napier Green highlights were used for some elements. This shade of green was a ‘hero’ colour on the 675LT.
If you want Napier Green on any other McLaren, you’ll need to go through an MSO brochure.
To apply this contrasting green, MSO went back to a technique used on the 720S GT3 and 570S GT4 race cars. The paint is applied to a light and flexible film, which is then applied to trim pieces like the splitter, sills, door inserts and rear diffuser. This contrast-colour film is being made an MSO option.
Nappier Green is seen on the brake calipers and on various parts of the interior too. They’ve managed to sneak the McLaren Senna’s carbon fibre racing seats in this special 600LT too. The cabin is also where you’ll find hidden ‘MSO’ touches, including tiny branding plates and plaques.
Besides that, the 600LT has been specced with carbon fibre options, including the MSO Defined Visual Carbon Fibre Front Fendre Louvres. These elements have a satin finish, just like they did on the 675LT. There’s a MSO Bespoke Carbon Black retractable hard-top and 10-spoke Ultra Lightweight forged alloy wheels with a gloss black finish.
